A Note About Acing It!

When I wrote Acing It! A Mindful Guide to Maximum Results on Your College Admissions Test, my goal was bigger than test content: I wanted to help students approach the SAT and ACT with confidence and clarity.

Since then, the SAT and ACT have both changed formats. To prevent confusion, I’ve stopped publishing new copies of the book. That said, you may still find used copies available. While the test-specific details are no longer current, the core strategies, mindset tools, and preparation principles remain just as relevant today.

I’ve chosen to leave this page up because I believe the book still represents my approach to test preparation: thoughtful, practical, and student-centered. If you do come across a copy, I hope it serves as a reminder that success comes not just from content knowledge, but also from how you prepare, think, and care for yourself along the way.

First things first: this is not your standard(ized) prep book.

Plenty of books tell you what to study for the SAT or ACT. But if earning a perfect score were as simple as knowing what to study, it wouldn’t be such a rare achievement.

There must be something else. A missing piece. A hidden factor.

Something that distinguishes one person’s performance from another’s.

The difference between test takers isn’t access to content, but the ability to work with it effectively during preparation and on test day.

In Acing It! A Mindful Guide to Maximum Results on Your College Admissions Test, top New York City test prep coach Erika Oppenheimer provides what every student needs to know to get maximum results on the SAT or ACT. With a mix of practical advice, anecdotes, and humor, Erika delivers tools and insights that will optimize your preparation.

Now in its second edition, Acing It! has been updated with brand new content, including information reflective of the New SAT.

Perfect for first-time test takers or those looking to improve their score, Acing It! is the must-have test prep companion that will empower you to rock your college admissions test.

GRATITUDE FROM STUDENTS

“I just finished reading your book and I wanted to email you to thank you! I'm 17 and a rising senior at Hunter College High School. My aunt sent me your book after she met you at yoga class. I spent my entire junior year prepping for the SAT, went through multiple tutors and test prep books, and ultimately ended up so stressed out and defeated that I scored lower on my second SAT in June than I had been scoring in January. I'm taking the SAT again in October so I can bring my scores up from ~2170 to ~2300 so I can be above my school's average and have a better chance of getting into my dream school. I finished your book five minutes ago and feel more inspired than I've felt since I took the PSAT in sophomore year! I feel super positive about tackling the next few weeks and ready to work, meditate, and take care of myself while preparing to kick ass on the SAT! So, thank you! Your book soothed my SAT anxiety. What a precious gift!”

— MAYA B., New York City, NY

APPRECIATION FROM PARENTS

“We LOVE Acing It!  It’s helped Emma tremendously with her approach to testing.  In fact, before we got Acing It!, we picked up a study guide tone from Books A Million that was dry, dull, and altogether crap!  Erika makes the student feel comfortable… lowering the shield of anxiety with humor and practical advice written at an exhilarating yet digestible level.  Very enjoyable for both parents AND their kids!”

—JEFF S., Rotonda West, FL

ESTEEM FROM TUTORS

“I’m so glad I found Acing It!, a book I didn’t even know I needed until I read it, reread it, and recommended it to all my colleagues.”

—Shelene P., Belmont, CA
